CHANGWON.- Renowned as the birthplace of major figures in Korean modern sculpturesuch as Kim Chong Yung, Moon Shin, Park Jongbae, Park Suk Won, and Kim YoungwonChangwon Special City continues to honor this legacy through the Changwon Sculpture Biennale. The biennale, which began in 2012, grew out of the 2010 Moon Shin International Sculpture Symposium and is the only event in Korea exclusively dedicated to the art of sculpture.
The 2026 Changwon Sculpture Biennale is inviting applications for an Artistic Director who understands the local identity and bridge it to global contemporary art networks. We welcome applications from those with a deep understanding of contemporary art and exhibitions, and a creative curatorial vision.
Vision and objectives
The Biennale seeks to:
Redefine the role of sculpture in contemporary art and explore forward-looking possibilities for the medium, as Koreas only biennale dedicated exclusively to sculpture.
Engage critically with global art trends and foster new cultural discourse by positioning the Changwon Sculpture Biennale as an international platform for artistic exchange.
Encourage broader audience participation and deepen connections with the local community through a wide range of public programs and exhibition-related initiatives.
