More Than 500,000 Visitors To Kyrios Exhibition

CIUDAD RODRIGO.- The exhibit titled the Ages of Man-Kyrios held at the Cathedral of Ciudad Rodrigo received last Saturday its 500,000th visitor. The Foundation of the Ages of Man will close the exhibit on December 10. The mystery of Christ, from before his birth to his glorification, is shown in the exhibit.

The prophecy of the coming of the messiah, his life on earth, his passion, death and resurrection are the thread that ties together the exhibit Kyrios, composed of 200 objects from the artistic holdings of the Dioceses of Castilla y Leon and Portugal, which is located 30 kilometers away from Ciudad Rodrigo.

The exhibit is set up in 5 stages or chapters and is located inside Santa Maria Cathedral, a temple built between the XII and XIV centuries where the transition from the Romantic to the Gothic can be appreciated and even Neoclassicism in its tower.

At the top of the portico is situated a relief in stone of a Christ from the XIII century, in a majestic attitude and which shows in his hands the scars of the Passion, the image of the poster that announces Kyrios (Lord in Greek).

The most ancient piece is an architectural stone from the X century, with a clock, pertaining to church of Santa Colombia de las Carabias.

In Ciudad Rodrigo, one can see bibles, paintings, ivory, crosses and tapestries that have been brought together from churches, monasteries, cathedrals, museums and libraries from the eleven dioceses of Castilla y Leon.

Works of art made by Gregorio Fernández, Pedro Berruguete, Pedro de Mena, Diego y Gil de Siloé, Enrique de Arfe, Guido Reni and Felipe Vigarny, among other artists form the exhibit.
