VADUZ.- Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein announced that Christiane Meyer-Stoll will be taking over as Director of the museum on 1 January 2026. She succeeds Letizia Ragaglia, who since 2021 has been positioning the Kunstmuseum with fresh impetus as an open venue for encounter and who will become Director of MASI Lugano at the beginning of next year.

Christiane Meyer-Stoll has been involved with the museum since its foundation: as early as 2000, she began working as a curator at Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, making significant contributions to the orientation of the museum and its collection in terms of both content and organisation. She has been a member of the Executive Board since 2006. In 2010, she was the first winner of the Justus Bier Prize for curators in recognition of her outstanding curatorial work.

In her new role, Christiane Meyer-Stoll aims to further evolve the Kunstmuseum as an open, living venue – engaging closely with artists, partner institutions and a wide ranging audience. She places special emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches and collaborative formats that focus on social questions and strengthen the museum as a space for shared experience and reflection.

Of particular importance to her is that visitors experience art with all their senses. These first-hand encounters enable profound understanding at many different levels. She sees the further evolution of the Kunstmuseum as a concerted task – driven by a trusting dialogue with the team, the Board of Trustees, the Friends, the Hilti Art Foundation and everyone involved within and outside of the museum.

“To me, museums are places of reflection that are all the more important in an increasingly digital world”, explains Christiane Meyer-Stoll. “Artists can often touch our humanity by means of quiet, poetic gestures and shift perspectives so as to allow new viewpoints and empathy to grow.”

Christiane Meyer-Stoll, born 1963 in Essen, is an art historian and has been working as a curator for many years. Before joining Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein in 2000, she was chief curator involved in setting up the private museum of the Goetz collection from 1993 to 1999, among other tasks.

From 1998 to 2000, she was co-director of the Städtische Kunsthalle Lothringerstrasse, where she produced numerous exhibitions, publications and educational formats.

At Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, she has had a defining influence on the programme – with solo exhibitions showcasing the work of Fred Sandback, Bill Bollinger, Rita McBride, Charlotte Moth or Rivane Neuenschwander, among others. At the same time, she has curated socially relevant group shows including Migration, Parliament of Plants I & II or, recently, On the Street. A special emphasis of her research is on the art of the 1960s, particularly Arte Povera – one of the main themes of the museum’s collection.

In 2010, she was awarded the Justus Bier Prize for curators – particularly for the publication on the Rolf Ricke collection (in cooperation with Kunstmuseum St.Gallen and MMK Frankfurt) and the exhibition Lust for Life. She has produced numerous academic publications that have added significantly to the profile of Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein in the international context.
