LONDON.- Yesterday, Wednesday 16 July, fashion designer Torishéju Dumi and Johanna Agerman Ross MA, received honorary doctorates from London College of Fashion, UAL.
A graduate of both London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins, Torishéju Dumi is one of the industrys most promising young fashion designers. Debuting at Paris Fashion Week in 2024 as the only Black designer on schedule, and at a time when women, particularly Black women founders and designers, are increasingly underrepresented at the helm of fashion houses, Dumi stands out as a vital and powerful figure emerging within British fashion.
Johanna Agerman Ross MA is Chief Curator at the Design Museum in London. Previously she worked at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) as Curator of 20th-century contemporary furniture and 20th-century product design. Originally from Sweden, Agerman Ross moved to London to study BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing at London College of Fashion, UAL (2003). Her work is testament to London's role as an incubator for art, design, fashion and digital creativity where global talent can be nurtured through world-class creative education.
London College of Fashion, UAL, is a global leader in fashion business, media, and design education. With a history of nurturing creative talent for over a century, the College encourages students to explore the past and question the present, developing bold and imaginative ideas that challenge social and political agendas. From its new home at East Bank, the UKs newest cultural quarter in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London College of Fashion is building partnerships, opening doors, and fostering connections with schools, communities, and industry across east London.
The 12 recipients of this year's University of the Arts London (UAL) honorary awards are influential creatives and esteemed artists whose work is known internationally. Ranging across fields including theatre, video game development, sustainability, cosmetic science, fashion, curation, fine art, education and activism; all are leading at the forefront of their disciplines and industries. All UAL honoraries are recognised for their outstanding contributions to the creative industries at UAL Graduation Ceremonies at the Royal Festival Hall from 15 - 18 July 2025.
