ATLANTA, GA.- The Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University announces the appointment of Jena Sibille as its associate museum director for public programs. Sibille is a museum professional with extensive experience in developing and delivering museum programs in Atlanta. In her new role at Emory she will be charged with master planning of the Carlos Museums public programs including its extensive offerings of talks, lectures, and K-12 programs as well as managing the development of exhibitions for the Carlos Museum.
I am very excited to welcome Jena to our team at the museum, says Henry S. Kim, associate vice-provost and director of the Carlos Museum. Over the last two years, we have focused our efforts on re-centering our narratives, placing communities at the heart of our programs. With her extensive experience in community engagement, Jena is a perfect fit for us at this moment in time, as we look to deepening our work with communities.
Sibille was most recently Museum Curator for the Fulton County Schools Teaching Museum & Archives where she directed two museum facilities and managed the school district archives. In her role, she ran educational programming for the school district, serving 80,000 students through over 800 programs annually. She also supervised, curated and project managed the creation of exhibits at the two museums, collaborating with community partners and content experts and managing exhibit writers, designers and installers.
For years I have benefitted from the Carlos Museums excellent exhibitions and programs, enjoying many family events, lectures and tours. I am thrilled to join this team of creative professionals in support of expanding the museums community engagement and impact, says Sibille.
Sibille began her career with the Peace Corps where she served as an educator for school and museum programs in Papua New Guinea. She returned to Atlanta where she worked to develop community relations for the Fulton County Arts and Culture department before joining the High Museum of Arts education team. Prior to joining Fulton County Schools, she worked as an educational program consultant, developing programs and leading trainings for museums and schools in the Southeast.
Sibille earned her Bachelors in Fine Arts and Masters in Education from the University of Georgia and received her teaching certification from Columbus State University. In 2020, she was recognized as the National Art Education Associations Southeastern Museum Educator of the year.
