Berlinale top prize-winning romantic drama opens September 12 at Film Forum
DREAMS (2025, 110 min.) Written and directed by Dag Johan Haugerud. Producer: Yngve Sæther, Hege Hauff Hvattum. Cinematographer: Cecilie Semec.

NEW YORK, NY.- Film Forum will present the US theatrical premiere of DREAMS on Friday, September 12; part of Norwegian novelist/filmmaker Dag Johan Haugerud’s LOVE – SEX – DREAMS: THE OSLO TRILOGY.

In this third installment of the trilogy, 17-year-old Johanne drifts and daydreams like any teenager, until one day her restlessness morphs into all-consuming passion for her charismatic French teacher, Johanna. From her vulnerable yet never maudlin inner monologue, to her frank confessions to her poet grandmother and over-curious mother, to nuanced scenes of intimacy with Johanna, Haugerud paints a complex, endearing, and intoxicating portrait of youthful infatuation and self-discovery, laced with the lightest touch of moral inquiry.

DREAMS had its world premiere at the 2025 Berlin International Film Festival where it was awarded the highest prize, the Golden Bear, the first Norwegian film to win the honor.

LOVE – SEX – DREAMS: THE OSLO TRILOGY are three distinct feature films linked by their themes of nontraditional intimacy (that need not be seen in any particular order). Film Forum will hold marathon screenings of all three films during the run of DREAMS.

“It sweeps you up, assuredly and indeed dreamily… The film’s precise juxtapositions of sight and sound produce brilliant flashes of insight…and a cumulatively seductive, almost musical flow.” – Justin Chang, The New Yorker

“The light touch that Haugerud applies to hefty matters of the heart comes as no surprise in DREAMS … consistently surprising and elastic in its reach.” – Guy Lodge, Variety

“Haugerud’s SEX–LOVE–DREAMS trilogy—three overlapping words cleverly incorporated into the main title sequence—is an impressive achievement that’s admirable for the intricate layering of its themes and the overall lightness of touch. Savvy programmers and arthouse distributors should be lining up to play the three films as a package.” – David Rooney, The Hollywood Reporter

“Elegantly styled, sensitively acted and crafted with keen intelligence.” – Jonathan Romney, Screen
