LOS ANGELES, CA.- Juliens Auctions announced another installment of its acclaimed Street Art series of auctions with Street Art: Paint & Pavement, taking place live from Juliens Studios in Los Angeles and online at juliensauctions.com on Thursday, September 25th at 10:00 AM PDT.
This event continues a legacy of bringing the most significant works of street art from the pavement to the podium. Featuring 30 exceptional lots, the auction will showcase a curated selection of pieces by the genre's most influential figures, including the anonymous provocateur Banksy, the pixel-art pioneer Invader, and the graphic icon Shepard Fairey.
For years, Julien's Auctions has been at the forefront of the street art market, celebrating the vibrant and rebellious spirit of artists who transform urban landscapes into public galleries. From our landmark auctions dedicated to street culture, we have consistently provided a platform for these vital contemporary voices. STREET ART: PAINT & PAVEMENT continues this tradition, offering collectors a chance to acquire works that are not only visually stunning but also culturally significant.
A premier highlight of the auction is Banksys Christ with Shopping Bags, a powerful and sought-after limited-edition screenprint from 2004. This iconic piece, which critiques the commercialization of religion, is a cornerstone for any serious collector. Crucially, it is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Pest Control, Banksy's official handling service, ensuring its undisputed provenance. This brilliant work is estimated to sell for $50,000 - $70,000.
The auction also features a significant collection of works by frequent Juliens usual suspect, the French artist Invader. Tying into the street and surf culture themes of our previous sales, the BAB-51 Original French Basque Country Street Art Mosaic (circa 2014) stands out. Originally executed on a wall overlooking the Bay of Biscay in the surf mecca of Biarritz, this tile mosaic captures the artist's signature 8-bit style in a unique coastal context. This piece, along with other original mosaics from his "invasions" of Tokyo, including "TK-105" and "TK-136," are each estimated at $8,000 - $12,000.
Adding a layer of potent social commentary to the sale are several limited-edition prints by Shepard Fairey. These works courageously confront the issue of police brutality. The collection includes the bluntly titled Im Gonna Kick Your Ass, and Get Away with It (Estimate: $800 - $1,200) and two versions of the collaborative print with Francisco Reyes Jr., Sadistic Dog Walker (Estimates: $500 - $700 each). Faireys work continues to be a powerful voice in contemporary activism, and these pieces are a testament to his unwavering commitment to social justice.
Featured lots of the collection include:
David Hockney Signed Original Self-Portrait Drawing on a Marlboro Cigarette Box - Estimate: $20,000 - $40,000
Banksy Girl with Balloon (aka Balloon Girl) Proof Print Estimate: $20,000 - $30,000
