NEW YORK, NY.- Christie's announced Post-War to Present, a live auction taking place 30 September at Christie's Rockefeller Center. The sale features an array of artworks from the most highly coveted names of the post-war era including Joan Mitchell, Alexander Calder, Alice Neel, Frank Stella, Sam Gilliam, Jack Whitten and more. The sale is rounded out with exemplary objects offering fresh perspectives on figuration and abstraction through a contemporary lens by artists including George Condo, Matthew Wong, Ernst Yohji Jaeger and Yu Nishimura.

Rachel Ng, Head of Post-War to Present, Christie's New York, remarks, “It's an honor to present our Post-War to Present auction to the market this September, featuring an incredible and diverse array of iconic artists spanning the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. From an early portrait by Alice Neel to a sunny depiction of Christie by Alex Katz, a chromatic Matthew Wong landscape to an early, rare painting by Tony Smith, a celestial and surreal Ernst Yohji Jaeger to Bob Thompson's unique rendition of the classical 'bathers' image, there is an exciting opportunity for every collector. We are particularly honored to showcase fantastic offerings from esteemed collectors from around the world, including an exquisite Joan Mitchell canvas from 1964 leading the sale, hailing from the collection of Vivian Fusillo, a legendary figure in the world of theatre.”

The sale is underpinned by superb examples from esteemed private collections, including the top lot: Peinture II by Joan Mitchell (estimate: $2.5 million - 3.5 million) from Joie de Vivre: Works from the Collection of Vivian Fusillo, Additional featured collection include Art is Art: Works from the Personal Collection of Wendy Al and Billy Al Bengston, Property from the Collection of Phyllis and Fred Pressman and A Triumph of Figuration: Selections from the Joel and Carole Bernstein Family Collection.

The sale will also showcase leading examples of Latin American art, including Paisaje heredado 4 by Olga de Amaral (estimate: $400,000 – 600,000) and Nude on the Beach by Fernando Botero (estimate: $500,000 –700,000) as well as a continuation of offerings from the distinguished collection of Tiqui Atencio and Ago Demirdjian.
