BARCELONA.- Barcelona’s art scene has opened its doors to a rare and intimate look at the work of Eduard Arranz-Bravo (1941–2023). The Fundació Suñol is presenting Nodos, flujos y vibraciones (Nodes, Flows and Vibrations), an exhibition that gathers twelve works from the Suñol Soler Collection—most of them never before displayed to the public. After its debut in Barcelona, the exhibition will cross borders in November, heading to the Centre d’études catalanes at Sorbonne Université in Paris.

A Dialogue Between Artist, Collector, and Gallerist

At the heart of this exhibition lies more than just paint on canvas. The works, produced during the 1970s and 1980s, reflect one of the most vibrant periods in Arranz-Bravo’s career. They also reveal a powerful triangular relationship between three figures who shaped Spanish contemporary art: Arranz-Bravo himself, the visionary gallerist Fernando Vijande, and the passionate collector Josep Suñol Soler.

This bond between artist, gallerist, and patron did more than launch exhibitions; it helped nurture a generation of creators who went on to become pillars of Spanish art in the second half of the 20th century. Arranz-Bravo, in particular, stood out for his uninhibited use of color, his irony, and his subversive take on form. His paintings pulse with energy—vibrations that capture the cultural and political transitions of their time.

From Barcelona to Paris

Curated by Albert Mercadé, with the collaboration of the Fundació Arranz-Bravo, the exhibition is not limited to Barcelona. On November 13, it will open at the Sorbonne’s Centre d’études catalanes, a cultural landmark housed in a 17th-century palace in the historic Le Marais district of Paris. There, until January 16, 2026, French audiences will be able to immerse themselves in this dialogue of nodes and flows that shaped Catalonia’s artistic avant-garde.

The international journey of Nodos, flujos y vibraciones reflects the Suñol Soler Collection’s commitment to bringing contemporary Spanish art to a wider stage. Through collaborations with cultural institutions in Spain and abroad, the foundation ensures that the legacy of artists like Arranz-Bravo continues to resonate.

A Legacy in Color and Connection

Arranz-Bravo’s artistic path was often intertwined with fellow painter Rafael Bartolozzi. Together, they tackled major projects, including the monumental murals of the Tipel factory in 1971 and their joint participation in the 1980 Venice Biennale. Yet Arranz-Bravo also thrived in solo exhibitions, particularly at the Galería Vandrés in Madrid, run by Fernando Vijande. His repeated appearances there throughout the 1970s cemented a unique partnership that elevated his career.

The exhibition also recalls more personal stories. In 1976, during a gathering at Josep Suñol’s new home, Arranz-Bravo spontaneously transformed a napkin into an artwork—an anecdote that reveals his playful genius and the trust he shared with his patrons and peers.

The Suñol Soler Collection

Today, the Suñol Soler Collection, with more than 1,000 works accumulated over four decades, stands as one of Spain’s most significant private collections. It encompasses everything from national and international icons to emerging voices, serving as both a historical archive and a platform for contemporary creativity.

Through this new exhibition, the Fundació Suñol not only celebrates Eduard Arranz-Bravo’s artistic brilliance but also highlights the networks of collaboration and friendship that kept Catalan art pulsing with life. Barcelona now has the privilege of unveiling these hidden treasures—before Paris takes its turn to vibrate with their energy.
