ATHENS.- Avant Arte, the creative marketplace making art radically more accessible, announces first-time collaboration with one of the worlds most celebrated contemporary artists Cindy Sherman. This exclusive partnership involves the sale of three previously unreleased limited-edition photographic works from her iconic Head Shots series. The works will be available on the platform from November 11, 2025, for one week only, with all proceeds going to support the Museum of Cycladic Arts Transformation project. In honor of its 40th anniversary, the Museum is creating an architectural landmark and a cultural milestone, reimagining how it serves the public as a dynamic, inclusive and immersive cultural hub.
Partnering with leading artists and cultural institutions to create fundraising editions is central to Avant Artes mission of championing public access to art. Through these collaborations, Avant Arte has raised transformative funds for international institutions, expanded audiences, and continues to foster a new generation of patrons globally. To date Avant Arte has collectively raised over $18 million USD for major museums including the National Portrait Gallery, Louisiana Museum, Dia Foundation, the Design Museum amongst others.
For Avant Artes debut collaboration, Sherman presents three never-before-seen photographs from her seminal Head Shots series. Untitled (2000/2025) comes from Shermans first photoshoot for the series, where she portrayed aspiring actors having their headshots taken in the lead-up to the 2000 Oscars, each hoping for a big break. This trio of photographs was originally shot on an expired roll of experimental Polaroid slide film and is presented in the format of a projector strip from an old-fashioned cinema, evoking the poignant story of faded Hollywood dreams. Until now, these photographs have remained unreleased. Twenty-five years later, Sherman shares this hidden gem from her personal archive, with proceeds supporting the Museum of Cycladic Art. The limited-edition print is offered as a set of three, with each set priced at EUR 1,300 + VAT.
Renowned for her conceptual photographic self-portraits, Cindy Sherman uses makeup, costumes and props to embody a wide range of characters and personas, exploring identity, gender, and representation. She continues to produce provocative and influential images, cementing her status as one of the most important artists working today. For her Head Shots series Sherman said: I see something poignant and relatable, because they're people who have had really big hopes and dreams and those things haven't been fulfilled, but they're still holding on to some hope.
As Sandra Marinopoulou, President and CEO of the Museum of Cycladic Art stated: We would like to thank Cindy Sherman and Avant Arte for this unique collaboration. We are so proud and honored working with them. Ιn 2024, the Museum of Cycladic Art presented the exhibition Cindy Sherman at Cycladic: Early works, the artists first solo museum exhibition in Greece. The exhibition showed more than 100 Shermans works under the same roof with the Museum's renowned collection of Cycladic art the famous marble female figurines of the 3rd millennium BC, revealing womens roles and stereotypes and questioning how the representation of women has evolved over time.
This year, in honor of its 40th anniversary, the Museum of Cycladic Art is embarking on a bold transformation that redefines how a museum of the future is expected to operate. Transforming itself from the inside out, changes will include a new physical space reflecting the Museums priorities, affirming its renewed commitment to creativity, sustainability and access to all. Sales proceeds from these limited edition artworks will help us build the Cycladic Museum of the future.
Mazdak Sanii, CEO of Avant Arte said: Were honoured to collaborate with Cindy Sherman as she unveils three never-before-seen photographs from her Head Shots series as a limited edition fundraiser in support of the Museum of Cycladic Art. Sharing these special works with our global community of over 4 million next-generation collectors serves to both connect new audiences with one of the most influential artists of our time and raise vital funds for an important cultural institution.
