SANTA MONICA, CA.-From January 13 through April 7, 2007, the Santa Monica Museum of Art will present Strange New World: Art and Design from Tijuana / Extraño Nuevo Mundo: Arte y diseño desde Tijuana, the first major exhibition to explore and celebrate the vibrant interdisciplinary art scene in Tijuana, one of the world's leading crucibles of cultural innovation. SMMoA's January 12 opening party celebrates Tijuana's cutting-edge electronic music scene with contributions from some of the city's top DJs and VJs. There will be music from globo-pop master DJ Rafa Dro, Radio Global mixologist DJ Wero, and cumbia masher DJ Chucuchu, plus the super-charged demolitions of Tijuana's most in-demand visual collagist, VJ Sal. Strange New World / Extraño Nuevo Mundo programs are organized for SMMoA by Josh Kun, writer and Associate Professor at the Annenberg School of Communication at the University of Southern California.
