NEW YORK.- Christie’s N.Y. held the Old Master and 19th Century Drawings auction sale with a total of $7,884,040 in sales. The top lot was the work by Hans Baldung Grien’s Head of a man, in three-quarter-profile to the left, black chalk, on light brown paper and sold for $3,712,000. This is a world auction record for the artist.

“We were thrilled with the results of today’s sale. The phenomenal success of the Koenigs Collection, doubling its pre-sale estimate, confirms the strength of the market. Christie’s continues to dominate the field for the rarest and most important works on paper, sourced from impeccable private collections. Throughout the sale, a prudent approach to estimates resulted in energetic bidding from all quarters, and we were particularly pleased with the number of institutional buyers, both from Europe and the United States,” said William O’Reilly, Head of Christie’s Old Master Drawings and Jennifer Wright, Christie’s New York Old Master Drawings Specialist.
