NEW YORK, NY.- Christie's announced the sale of a diverse selection of Outsider Art selling across two auctions in New York's Contemporary Art Sales this February. The first auction, Outsider Art, is open for bidding February 11 - February 27, 2026. The sale comprises more than 170 works by up‑and‑coming names from the field and established artists of the category, including Bill Traylor, Nellie Mae Rowe, Thornton Dial, and Elijah Pierce.

The sale's top lot is Seated Girl, a limestone sculpture executed circa 1930s (estimate: $200,000-300,000) by William Edmondson—the first Black artist to be featured in a solo show at the Museum of Modern Art in 1937.

Additional top lots in the online sale include Vile Milliarden Stund (Double-Sided), a work on paper by Adolf Wölfli (estimate: $40,000-80,000), Untitled (Large figure) by James Castle (estimate: $30,000-50,000), and two works on paper by Bill Traylor: Man with Hat and Cane (estimate: $30,000-50,000) and Woman with Open Umbrella and Axe Man (estimate: $25,000-30,000).

Eleven exceptional works from the category will also be offered in the auction house's Post-War to Present sale taking place live on February 26, notably including an extremely rare embroidery by Madge Gill (estimate: $60,000-80,000). Gill is a renowned British visionary artist whose work was recently acquired by the Tate Modern during Frieze London last fall. She is primarily known for her drawings, and during her life created a limited number of powerful, colorful, abstracted embroidered pieces. Gill made approximately 30 of these embroideries, a number of which are held in museum collections. Only 11 known examples remain in private hands. The last known sale of Gill's embroideries took place in the 1960s—this February will be the first time one has appeared at auction.

Additional works featured in the Post-War to Present sale include an exceptional Thornton Dial construction from 2003 (estimate: $30,000-50,000), and examples by Anna Zemankova and Minnie Evans, among others.
