NEW YORK and LONDON.- The world’s leading fine art dealers come together once again for The International Fine Art Fair in New York , from the 11th-16th May 2007. The 2007 fair marks the 13th edition of an event for which institutional and private buyers wait all year, such is the range and quality of paintings, drawings, watercolours, and sculpture, from Renaissance gold ground panel paintings through to 20th century Modern art.

The International Fine Art Fair remains the only “high end” fair in the world devoted solely to pictures and sculpture. Exhibitors, from both sides of the Atlantic and the Far East , including many of the world’s leading dealers, return to the fair year after year. Newcomers add to the mix, enriching the fair with their own particular speciality. In recent years there has been an increase in the participation of American dealers offering American art of the 19th and 20th centuries, very much a reflection of the strength of demand in America for it’s own art works.

The wide variety on view spans the centuries and illustrates how European art, in particular, has evolved, becoming increasingly secular after devoutly religious beginnings. Reflecting this, The International Fine Art Fair features a broad range, from exquisitely executed and inevitably rare, gold ground panel paintings of the Renaissance period, devotional images painted perhaps with a Virgin and Child, through to the modern world and the kaleidoscope of images in just about every style imaginable, produced in the course of the 20th century by artists on both sides of the Atlantic . Above all, quality is an essential requirement of The International Fine Art Fair, where every exhibit is carefully vetted for authenticity.

There are traditional scenes, some highly academic, some more decorative, including mythological and allegorical, landscapes and cityscapes – views of New York City itself among these – still lives, portraits, marine views, interiors and, as we move closer to our own time, increasingly abstract and less conventional imagery. Grand “history” paintings painted for the Salon, or major commissions for an important patron, can be seen alongside charmingly informal sketches, such as of a child or favourite pet, or untypical early works before an artist developed their trademark style. Large-scale paintings are offset by small jewel-like oils and watercolours; likewise with sculpture, the museum-destined bronze or marble, alongside a small “maquette” perhaps appealing to the private buyer.

While The International Fine Art Fair can justifiably claim to offer much that is of museum-quality, it also has a much wider appeal. There is truly something for all and prices range accordingly, from under $1000 to in excess of $10m. Providing an essential reassurance to purchasers, every work of art is carefully vetted for quality and authencity, with vetting procedures at the fair among the strictest. The vetting committees are made up of panels of specialists from both the museum and commercial art worlds.

In 2007 The International Fine Art Fair features over 55 dealers in total from Europe, America and the Far East . Returnees include: Didier Aaron Inc.
