NASHVILLE, TENN.- The Andrew Jackson Foundation, which owns and operates historic site and presidential home The Hermitage, announced today that its new satellite location, Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage Tickets and Tours, is now open in Marathon Village.
Designed to educate, engage, and encourage curiosity about history, Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage Tickets and Tours will augment the work of the original Hermitage by providing another window into the historic landmark and the people who lived and were enslaved there. The store is designed around various questions that invite introspection and thoughtful engagement. There is also a dedicated viewing area for the film Andrew Jackson: Perspectives, featuring a wide-ranging conversation between historians Jon Meacham and Daniel Feller that explores Jackson’s life, personality, presidency, and complicated legacy. Tickets to the grounds, its special events, and various tours are available for purchase. Events that blend education and entertainment, such as duel reenactments or interpretive portrayals of historical figures, will also be hosted at the Marathon Village location.
“The opening of this new satellite location is an exciting step forward in our mission to educate people about The Hermitage and the legacy of America’s seventh president,” said Jason Zajac, president and CEO of the Andrew Jackson Foundation. “By expanding our presence beyond Hermitage and into Nashville, we can connect with new audiences where they are and introduce more people to the history, stories and experiences The Hermitage has to offer.”
Intentionally curated merchandise is organized around questions displayed throughout the location. One asks, ‘What is The Hermitage?’ and features books exploring the land’s history, including its transformation from a modest frontier farm into a plantation shaped by generations of people including the Jackson family, those they enslaved, and others who lived and worked there over time. Another question invites visitors to consider the letters of the Jackson family amid a display of stationery, wax seals and stamps, calligraphy sets, fine pens, and books on letter writing and historical correspondence.
The interior aligns with the aesthetic of the historic Marathon Village building, maintaining the original wood floors, ceilings and pillars already present in the space. The back of the store, which features exposed brick and large steel windows, holds a dedicated viewing area for the Andrew Jackson: Perspectives film with comfortable seating for those watching the movie, along with a small conference table.
Employees are well-educated on the history of The Hermitage and the roster of its current offerings and events so that visitors of the satellite location can lean on their expertise and guidance.
