DALLAS, TX.- A named collection of fractional currency, specimens, experimentals and courtesy autographs so robust that it fills an entire session will be among the top attractions at Heritage’s GACC U.S. Currency Signature� Auction Oct. 6–9.

The William S. George Collection includes 479 lots, including one of just two known uncut pairs of a Fr. 1373a 50� Milton 3r50.9 Third Issue Justice Uncut Pair PMG Choice About Unc 58 EPQ. That, coupled with the fact that there are just five singles known, make this an undeniable rarity coveted by the most serious of collectors. The example offered in this auction carries the highest grade of any single note or pair graded by PMG.

From the same collection comes a magnificent and unique Double Denomination Essay Error Milton 2E5FR.2 Fr. 1235/1322 5�/50� Second Issue PMG Choice About Unc 58 EPQ that has an incorrect Milton number on the PMG front label; the correct number is 2E5FR.2. When this note appeared at the 1983 Memphis International Paper Money Show auction, it was described as an error. PMG calls it an Essay because the design (as a double denomination, with a full normal 5� face and a full normal 50� back of the T-1-18-63 variety) differs from the issued design. Any doubts about authenticity that were discussed in the original 1983 description have been ended; after 29 years, PMG has encapsulated it with its stamp of approval.

The William S. George Collection also offers a Fr. 1328 Milton 3R50.14b 50� Third Issue Spinner Uncut Block of Twelve PCGS Choice About New 55PPQ that is an absolutely magnificent uncut block of 12 50� Third Issue Fractionals. In addition to its time in The Monroe Friedman Collection, it also made its way into both The F.C.C. Boyd and The John J. Ford, Jr. Collections, and its last public auction appearance was in 2024. A likely unique uncut block for the number, this piece quite possibly represents the only opportunity serious Fractional collectors will have to acquire a Fractional block of this caliber.

The Westchester CollectionAnother named collection in the auction is the Westchester Collection, a 114-lot trove that includes a New York, NY - $100 1875 Fr. 457 The National Broadway Bank Ch. # 687 PMG Very Fine 25 that is a very nice example of this extremely rare type and denomination, one of just 55 Series 1875 $100s reported for the entire country, according to the National Bank Note census, and one of 14 listed for all Empire State banks. It is one of two 1875 $100s reported for this large-only New York City bank, one of which is in the holdings of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. It was last on the market in 2001.

Collectors often are drawn to banknotes with larger denominations, like the Fr. 2200-I $500 1928 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ. This $500 FRN is not only from the better 1928 Series but also from the scarcer Minneapolis district. It is one of just four pieces graded at this level by PMG with none finer, and the only 64-graded example of this Friedberg number to have appeared at public sale in more than 20 years, according to Track & Price.

From the same collection comes a Serial Numbers 1-6 Harrison, NY - $10 1929 Ty. 2 The First National Bank Ch. # 12601 Uncut Sheet Six PCGS Banknote Choice XF 45. A great Serial Number 1 uncut sheet from this popular Westchester County location that is the only sheet known from the scarce charter and is being publicly offered for the first time. It originally was acquired in a private transaction from a Western dealer more than 20 years ago and it has quietly resided in a single collection since that time. It represents the first sheet of Type 2 $10s issued by the bank, and it contains the only Number 1 note, large or small, reported from this charter.

Richard Jones CollectionOne of the 99 lots in the auction from the Richard Jones Collection is an extraordinary Petersburg, VA - $50 1902 Date Back Fr. 667 The Virginia National Bank Ch. # (S)7709 PMG Very Fine 20. A very rare note for the entire state of Virginia, this offering is one of just four 1902 $50 Date Backs reported for all Old Dominion banks — two are from Staunton and two from this Petersburg bank. It is the first of the known quartet from either bank to be publicly offered since 2004.

Among the most popular of all banknotes are those baring ultra-high denominations, such as a Fr. 2231-B $10,000 1934 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 that is a very impressive example of the nation’s highest circulating denomination. This magnificent example defied all odds and has remained in an uncirculated state or preservation for nearly a century.

Another high-denomination treasure that is in play in the auction is a Fr. 2221-H $5,000 1934 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Very Fine 30 that is a new addition to the census as it makes its way to its first auction appearance. The emergence of this banknote raises the population to just nine. Track & Price has recorded a total of 136 $5,000 FRNs across both the 1928 and 1934 Series, and there are more collectors than notes to satisfy demand as prices continue to rise. Heritage offered two small size $5,000 Federal Reserve Notes in 2024: a Fr. 2220-F grading PMG VF 30 EPQ that realized $360,000 in January 2024 and a Fr. 2221-B with serial number 3 grading PMG XF 40 with a restoration that fetched $192,000 in September 2024.

The auction includes a Pendleton, OR - $10 1875 Fr. 420 The First National Bank Ch. # 2630 PMG Choice Very Fine 35 that an extremely rare First Charter Oregon note. A great Oregon note that is newly discovered and headed to auction for the first time, it comes from one of only two banks in the entire state to issue First Charter notes, and is just the fifth Series 1875 $10 to be reported and the second from this Pendleton bank. Its serial number is consecutive to the other known example from this charter, which was last on the market in a 2014 auction, in which it realized $34,500.

Also offered is a Serial Number 1 San Diego, CA - $20 1882 Brown Back Fr. 494 The Consolidated National Bank Ch. # 3056 PMG Extremely Fine 40. One of the greatest California notes ever offered at Heritage, it is the only reported note from this San Diego charter that was in business for just 10 years from 1883 until its failure in 1893 and it also remains one of only three No. 1 $20 Brown Backs reported for the entire state of California.

Collectors who chase the rarest of notes will be drawn to a Lafayette, IN - $50 Original Fr. 442a The National State Bank Ch. # 930 PMG Very Fine 20 that is one of just two First Charter $50s reported from all Indiana banks and, not surprisingly, the only one of the two known from this Lafayette bank.

Among the notes that always spark curiosity and interest among collectors are error notes like a Dual Denomination Error Fr. 2071-K $20/$10 1974 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Choice Very Fine 35 EPQ that will cross the block in this auction. The Dallas “$30” notes were the last dual denominations to escape the BEP. Dual/double denominations always create excitement and they have rightfully earned their “King of Errors” title. The note offered in this auction. Ownership of a dual/double denomination error note always will be members in a very exclusive club that will add another member when the gavel falls for the last time on this remarkable note.

Also in play is a Fr. 1219e $1,000 1907 Gold Certificate PMG Very Fine 30 that is one of just 49 examples reported in Track & Price, but even that minute population can be viewed as generous, considering that about one-third of those notes are permanently secured in the collections of the ANA, Smithsonian and Federal Reserve banks, or they never have previously been brought to auction or offered publicly. While that is not the case with this piece, it has been offered publicly only once. Only eight notes of this number have reached a grade higher at PMG, according to the PMG Population Report.
