19th and 20th Century Art Works at Leslie Hindman
Harry Bertoia’s Screen Tree Sculpture estimated to bring $100,000-150,000 and sold for $144,000.



CHICAGO.- Leslie Hindman Auctioneers is pleased to announce outstanding results from the April 29, 2007 sale featuring 19th and 20th Century paintings, prints, works on paper, sculpture and photography.

The first session included an impressive assortment of American and European paintings, works on paper and sculpture with a portion from the estate of Ms. Sally Fairweather, an internationally recognized art dealer. Among the works from Ms. Fairweather’s collection was Harry Bertoia’s Screen Tree Sculpture estimated to bring $100,000-150,000 and sold for $144,000; Robert Natkin’s Faust, estimated at $20,000-30,000 and sold for $33,600; and Arthur Osver’s Cloud Nine, estimated at $4,000-6,000 and sold for $24,000.

With numerous bidders from all around the world both on the auction floor and on the telephones, the highlights continued throughout the day with Sir Gerald Festus Kelly’s Mah-Aung-Saw-Myang, which realized $156,000, far exceeding the presale estimate of $15,000-20,000; Jean Dufy’s Rue Norvins in Montmartre, realizing $62,400 against an estimate of $25,000-35,000; and Guy Wiggins’ Wintry Weather, which brought $114,000 against an estimate of $60,000-80,000. Another major highlight was a painting by Larry Poons, Untitled, which realized $60,000, tripling the high estimate.

Other highlights of the sale included three paintings by Ed Paschke, including one entitled Yo Yo. Originally stolen from the artist along with two other paintings in 1997 while en route to galleries in Paris and Milan, Yo Yo realized $31,200. Additionally, Paschke's Insertion realized $26,400 and his Mano Y Mano realized $20,400.
