City of Calgary Public Art Program Call for Artists



CALGARY.- The City of Calgary Public Art Program, in conjunction with Transportation Infrastructure, is seeking Expressions of Interest (i.e. Request for Qualifications) from experienced artists with a demonstrated ability to design artwork and/or aesthetic enhancements for transportation infrastructure. Relevant experience working on pedestrian bridges and retaining wall structures will be considered an asset.

The aesthetic enhancement of the pedestrian bridge over Country Hills Boulevard linking to Sanderling Drive in northwest Calgary is to be designed by an artist whose expertise must include practical, demonstrated experience in the field of public art, collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, and ability to work within set budgets and construction schedules.

The total artist budget for concept, design, and overseeing fabrication and installation for consistency with artistic concept, is $48,386. The responsibility of fabrication and installation will be determined at a later date. The total public art construction budget for this project is $156,414.

Budgets are all-inclusive, including but not limited to: artist fees, travel, research, design, professional fees, review of fabrication/installation shop drawings and procedures, documentation, contingency, and all permit fees and taxes.

The design concept may include integrating art into: concrete piers, abutments and retaining walls: railings, walkways, and slope protection of the pedestrian bridge structure: bridge approaches.
This competition is open to local, regional, national and international artists. Submissions must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2007.
