2007 Sidewalk Art Show Awards



ROANOKE, VA.- The Art Museum of Western Virginia today announces the prize and award winners of the 2007 Sidewalk Art Show, presented by Bank of America. Ted Batt, exhibitions curator for the Academy of Fine Arts in Lynchburg, Virginia, served as judge for this year’s show.

“I am truly honored to judge the Sidewalk Art Show this year. The Historic Roanoke City Market area is a unique venue to showcase such high quality works,” said Ted Batt, juror for the 2007 Sidewalk Art Show. “There were so many talented artists in the show; my only regret is that there were not more awards to present!”

Best in Show – Near Mountain Lake, Ann Glover, Roanoke, Virginia
Second Prize – Half Acre, Chris Bruno, Jacksonville, Florida
Third Prize – David Gill, Richmond, Virginia

Awards:
Anstey Hodge Advertising Group Award for Excellence in Design – In My Backyard, Mary Bullington, Roanoke, Virginia
Blair Wiley Fishwick Memorial Award – Nina McGee, Roanoke, Virginia
Allen Ingles Palmer Memorial Watercolor Award – Vonnie Whitworth, Virginia Beach, Virginia
Paul Ostaseski Memorial Award – Joan Gardner, Spotsylvania, Virginia

Merit Awards:
Painting Award – Sharon Kincheloe, Staunton, Virginia
Painting Honorable Mention – Edgar Reims, Deal Island, Maryland
Watercolor Award – Karen Shelton, South Boston, Virginia
Watercolor Honorable Mention – Yumiko Ichikawa, Christiansburg, Virginia
Mixed Media Award – Leslie Banta, Staunton, Virginia
Mixed Media Honorable Mention – Mary Bullington, Roanoke, Virginia
Photography Award – Susan Bidwell, Roanoke, Virginia
Photography Honorable Mention – Gary Howerton, Danville, Virginia
Sculpture Award – Michael Costello, Willis, Virginia
Drawing/Original Printmaking Award – Marcia McDade, Cedar Grove, North Carolina

Best in Show is presented by the Cartledge Foundation and second prize is presented by Friendship Retirement Community. The Anstey Hodge Advertising Group Award for Excellence in Design is presented by Anstey Hodge Advertising Group. The Paul Ostaseski Memorial Award and the Blair Wiley Fishwick Memorial Award are presented to winners chosen by members of each family. Other award sponsors include Elan Financial Group, Frame’n Things & The Gallery, the Little Dipper, Roanoke Moulding Design, The Walters Printing & Manufacturing Co., and Wertz’s Restaurant and Wine Cellar.
