Mariuccia Pisani To Present "Follow the Rabbit"

VENICE, ITALY.- On July 24th and September 9th - 3pm, at the Thetis Space at the Arsenale Novissimo in Venice, the artist Mariuccia Pisani will present the preview of her new video “Follow the Rabbit”, held as part of the event "Joseph Beuys. Difesa della Natura. The Living Sculpture. Kassel 1977-Venice 2007", created and curated by Lucrezia De Domizio Durini. The video will be shown from 24th July to 17th September.

“Follow the Rabbit” is the artist’s homage to the master Joseph Beuys: the poetical declaration of a woman who tries to live a complex present without filters. The video uses a linear esthetic to reveal multiple levels of significance, while its intimate message is entrusted to simple symbolic associations.

The set is that of a the uncultivated area of the Abruzzo Orta Valley, near Bolognano, Beuy’s spiritual shelter for the last 15 years of his life and place for some of his memorable happenings. The shot isolates the detail of Mariuccia’s shoes, clambering between bushes and stones to reach the magnificent waterpool of the Cisterna waterfall. She is wearing a pair of super high- heeled red patent leather stilettos to undertake her “journey”.

The well-known leitmotif of constriction, of discomfort of which a woman wanting to be at level of a certain social role, is forced, are linked to those of courage, obstinacy and curiosity in the discovery of self-knowledge. It is as if a refined city Alice were searching for a dream or maybe for her personal livable Wonderland. In the mise en scene, every now and then, a rabbit pops out of the vegetation: It is the silent escort, the perfect incarnation of the master’s figure.

Mariuccia Pisani - Born in 1973 in Brooklyn, NY, she lives and works between Pescara, Italy and New York. She realizes performances, installations, pictures and videos which originate from an autobiographical and corporal field. Through a rich iconography, led by a frenetic production of drawings which have a clean and continuous stroke, Mariuccia Pisani creates an articulated world of methaphores; multiple declensions of herself. She uses the body in her work as a fundamental expressive tool with which she narrates places and stories.
