LOS ANGELES, CA.-Yo! What Happened to Peace? is a touring group show of pro-peace, anti-war and anti-occupation posters turned newly published book. This July 28th, 2007 event marks the book’s official Los Angeles premiere. Hosted by The Continental Gallery and Gilmore Associates in downtown Los Angeles located at 408 South Spring Street, partners for this free event include non-profit organization The Center for the Study of Political Graphics and eM Productions. CodePink, Iraq Veterans Against The War and Axis of Justice representatives along with Yo! Artists Chaz Bojorquez, Favianna Rodriguez and Mark Vallen, will provide critical dialogue regarding the current U.S. occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Yo! Show Curator John Carr will act as moderator. Downtown LA’s Hard Pressed Studios will churn out live screenprinted peace posters. VJ Michael Allen will provide visual stimulation for the evening and DJ Oliver Knight and The Gaslamp Killer will provide revolutionary sounds. Mear One and Overton Lloyd will close out the evening with live renegade art. Doors open at 7pm until midnight.

Hailed as “The art that rocks the boat of war in Iraq” by Japan Times, this book catalogs handcrafted pro-peace and anti-war prints by 120+ artists that have come to define the touring Yo! What Happened To Peace? poster exhibition. The diverse range of artists from all walks of life are comprised of some well known for their political art – Robbie Conal, Eric Drooker, Winston Smith, Seth Tobocman, Josh MacPhee and Favianna Rodriguez, others known for design/graffiti/street-art styles including Shepard Fairey, Futura, members of the Barnstormers, Mear One, Chaz Bojorquez, JK5, and Genevieve Gauckler. The show also features posters by well-known silk-screen printer/designers Emek, Chuck Sperry & Ron Donovan/Firehouse, Ames Bros, Seripop, and Kayrock & Wolfy.

The Yo! What Happened To Peace? project is the brainchild of Los Angeles based graphic artist John Carr of Hard Pressed Studios. During the 2003 U.S. march to Iraq, Carr put the call out for artist submissions. The first Yo! Show was hosted by the CWC Gallery in Tokyo with only 13 prints, and has since grown to over 250+ posters and has toured through New York, San Francisco, Milan, Reyjavik, Washington D.C., Boston and Chicago. No New Enemies Gallery in Bruxelles, Belgium will host the Yo! Show July 20th, 2007. The pressing goals of each show are 1) to make a clear stand to end the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and 2) to inspire a broad audience to see and be the alternatives to militarism and violence in general.
