Proposal to Expand Holburne Museum Rejected |
BATH, UK.- The Bath & North East Somerset Council rejected a proposal on Wednesday for a £10m glass structure that was to be built on to the back of the Holburne Museum. Officials at the museum had stated they require more space to display its artefacts. The extension, if approved, would provide space for new galleries, display areas, and education and visitor facilities, including a shop and cafe. The museum is a grade I-listed building in a grade II-listed landscape and attracts 33,000 visitors a year. According to a council spokesman the application was rejected on the grounds that the extension would harm the building and the conservation area.
The museum announced in its website: "Following the rejection of the application for this proposal by B&NES council the future of the scheme and the Holburne Museum is uncertain at the moment."
