ASPEN, COLORADO.- The Aspen Art Museum is proud to present Sculptors Drawing, an exhibition featuring drawings by nine internationally acclaimed artists— Matthew Barney, Anne Chu, Keith Edmier, Terisita Fernández, Jorge Pardo, Tobias Rehberger, Thomas Scheibitz, Katy Schimert, and Ricky Swallow—known for their sculptural practices, but for whom the act of drawing is also a primary mode of expression and investigation.

The exhibition opened Thursday, August 2, 2007, with a free public reception held on Thursday, August 9, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., featuring a public conversation between AAM Director and Chief Curator Heidi Zuckerman Jacobson and exhibiting artists Thomas Scheibitz and Ricky Swallow. Sculptors Drawing will be on view through Sunday, October 14, 2007, in the AAM Upper Gallery.

Organized by Zuckerman Jacobson, Sculptors Drawing will be accompanied by an illustrated catalogue which features the artists’ personal responses to the central question: “How does drawing complement or diverge from your sculptural practice?” In her catalogue essay “Sculptors and Drawing,” Zuckerman Jacobson prefaces these comments, noting:

“Sculptors Drawings affords the opportunity to examine an overlooked aspect of the work of these artists in greater detail, and an unprecedented opportunity to view the work of these artists through a different lense.”

Sculptors Drawing is organized by the Aspen Art Museum , funded in part by the AAM National Council, with additional underwriting by Frances Dittmer and Wendy Aresty. Exhibition catalogue underwritten by Toni and Daniel Holtz, and Toby Devan Lewis.
