LIVONIA, MI.- The Madonna Exhibition Gallery at Madonna University presents Mary Rousseaux - Dichotomy Series 2007, on view through October 5, 2007. Mary Rousseaux wrote: Big bang, creationism, evolution all theories that attempt to place order and logic to our existence, some based on scientific evidence others on historical literature however they all share one common denominator: that some type of matter split and evolved, continued to split and evolve and continues to do so, as they divide they become independent of each other yet still dependent to the very energy from which they originated.
This new series of work is my personal exploration of the dichotomous relationship between man and nature, man and religion and man and science. I do not see these as separate battles fought out in different arenas but as a quest to understand the fundamental reason for our being. I am questioning the ideas of control and balance, as we attempt to control each other and our environment we continuously loose the fight to elements seen and unseen. We are dependent to upon the very things we try to manipulate. We can never become completely separate from our host. whether that is seen as our planet, our beliefs or our egos.
I have presented two different elements that can be seen as organic vs manufactured, micro vs marco, or order vs chaos. These elements are at time depicted with a barrier, which is created to cause a pause a place of contemplation, while others are simply placed together, creating a forum for discussion. I believe in is up the viewer to spend some time with the images and develop their own internal dialogue. I think that we all question our existence and seek evidence to define our purpose with this body of work I am looking to open up that exploration for discussion be it personal or public.
