SB London Presents "EXplants: Wearable Forms"

LOS ANGELES, CA.- SB London presents "EXplants: Wearable Forms", on view October 06 - November 09, 2007. "EXplants: Wearable Forms" are mixed-media sculpture intended to be affixed to the outside of the body as opposed to implants which go inside. By combining stainless steel, silicone, resin, imprinted fabric, and cement, these forms resemble biological material. Round, sensual, and fitting easily into the hand, these mysterious creations are futuristic artifacts, and resemble their pre-historic predecessors: "Venus Figurines." With their talismanic quality, the organ-like forms challenge our sensory perceptions by at once mimicking bodily formations and textures while seductively combining modern materials, linking them to our coveted high-tech devices.

The experience of seeing, touching, picking up, and wearing an "EXplant" is most closely reminiscent of the calm experience of walking on the beach and having a "unique" rock catch the eye. Bending down to touch the rock, picking up the rock, holding the rock, rubbing the rock, and eventually taking the rock home in hopes of revisiting the calm of the scene and memory of the experience through the tactile quality of the rock. This dichotomy is captured in "EXplants: Wearable Forms" which opens to the public on Saturday, October 6, from 6 to 10pm, and the artist will be present.

S B LONDON is a showroom of industrial art, showcasing works which are inspired by microscopic patterns from nature, revealing the essence of complex structures. Dedicated to making things which inform, inspire, and relieve, the work makes a practice of finding commonalities between seemingly disparate elements, thereby revealing delicate narratives. Subtly stirring, the fragile balance between opposites and the relationships that exist between them, us, and each other is illustrated. S B LONDON is pleased to introduce our latest undertaking: "EXplants: Wearable Forms."
