NEW YORK.- On November 1st and 2nd, Sotheby’s will offer a selection of Old Master, Modern and Contemporary Prints. The 574 lots will be on exhibition on Sotheby’s 3rd floor galleries from October 28th through 31st and are estimated to sell for $10,228,000/14,261,500.

The earliest era is best represented by a fine impression of the Dutch artist Rembrandt’s Christ Healing the Sick: the Hundred Guilder Print, lot 10, an etching and drypoint from c. 1649 estimated at $100,000-150,000. Additionally, eight relief etchings by William Blake with extensive hand-coloring will be presented in six lots with estimates varying ranging between $5,000 and $45,000.

The Modern European portion of the sale will be highlighted by two Picasso lots. The first, Dora Maar, pictured on page 1, lot 209, comprises five progressive states of a 1938 aquatint and is expected to sell between $350,000 and $450,000. The second, L’Egyptienne, lot 215, a 1953 aquatint portraying a woman’s torso in abstract form, is estimated at $175,000-225,000.

Also on the 1st of November will be Edvard Munch’s 1902 woodcut Melancholy III, lot 174, pictured above, depicting a mournful figure within a landscape expected to sell between $150,000-200,000.

The Contemporary section features 30 Roy Lichtenstein prints from a Private California Collection, spanning the full breadth of the artist’s printmaking career. We are also pleased to include Soft Screw, lot 456, pictured at left, a very rare multiple by Claes Oldenburg. The black cast urethane sculpture on a mahogany base was executed in an edition of 24 and is estimated $70,000-100,000.

Amongst numerous iconic Warhol images offered will be Campbell’s Soup I, lot 530, the ten soup cans presented with an estimate of $300,000-400,000; Double Mickey Mouse, lot 549, pictured at right, a unique screenprint with diamond dust at $180,000-220,000; and the ever-alluring portrait of Marilyn Monroe, lot 529, at $100,000-150,000.
