LEIPZIG.- As a promising exhibition start in 2008, Finnish photographer Ville Lenkkeri will hold his solo debut show at maerzgalerie. The show comprises both series �Civil Courage� and �From Our Time�. �Civil Courage� shows fictional stories of people facing the unknown in their lives, which can be both mental or physical grounds. The pictures in the series �Civil Courage� are still, despite the acknowledged falsity of the situations, as close to documentary as photography can get.

�From Our Time� broaches the issue of man`s spectatorship in regard to past, present and, potentially, future events. The pictures show people looking at large, historic panorama paintings, which uphold illusions of past realities like nationally significant historic events. As history itself is man-made, our knowledge of the world is obtained and a quite subjective idea of how things are or have been. For the viewer is being brought everything readily to his eyes and mind, he is left in the position of a mere passive spectator.
