Velázquez Portrait of King Philip Goes Unsold |
Velázquez, Portrait of King Philip IV, 1628.
MADRID, SPAIN.- The Sala Retiro was not able to sell a Velázquez portrait painted around 1628 portraying King Philip IV in full body. The bidding for the work began at 2.5 million euros but it did not sell. The work is considered a copy of the one at the Museo del Prado. At the end of the session two art collectors showed interest on it. The work has been dated thanks to an old photograph, previous to the massive restoration the work underwent. The photo graph shows the words "Velázquez fecit 1628".
