BOCA RATON, FL.- The Boca Raton Museum of Art is delighted to announce the opening of the world-class exhibitions Degas in Bronze: The Complete Sculptures and Tiffany Studios: The Holtzman Collection. These exciting exhibitions will be on display January 25 through April 27, 2008.

Degas in Bronze: The Complete Sculptures presents an extraordinary opportunity to experience Degas' complete work in sculpture. A pioneering artist in so many respects, Degas set the stage for later developments in modern art through his innovations in depicting lifelike form and movement. The 73 bronzes in this exhibition are on loan from the collections of MASP, Museu de Arte de São Paulo, Assis Chateaubriand, São Paulo, Brasil. Degas in Bronze: The Complete Sculptures is organized by Joseph S. Czestochowski, International Arts.

This extraordinary exhibition explores one of the most fascinating aspects of the work of Degas, whose innovative compositions, skillful drawing, and perceptive analysis of movement made him one of the late19th-century masters of modern art. During the Boca Raton Museum of Art's exhibition, the bronzes will be augmented by a selection of Degas prints and drawings to provide visitors with a fuller view of the artist's creative genius for representing the figure in motion.

The Boca Raton Museum of Art's presentation of Degas in Bronze is supported in part by an indemnity from the Federal Council on the Arts and Humanities, The Estate of Simone Stakolt Tolksdorf, an anonymous Patron of the Arts, The City of Boca Raton, and The Bernard and Mary Jane Pollack Foundation.

Tiffany Studios: The Holtzman Collection presents a selection of more than 30 extraordinary Tiffany works from the Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Holtzman Collection. The exhibition features exquisite Tiffany lamps, favrile glassware, candlesticks, desk sets, and other works in glass and metal, never before exhibit to the public.

Evelyn and Seymour Holtzman began collecting Tiffany in 1984, when they bought their first Tiffany lamp - a floor lamp in the Snowball pattern - for their library. The Holtzman's passionate collecting of all things Tiffany has resulted in one of the most extensive privately held Tiffany collections in the world.

No American designer was more closely linked with Art Nouveau than Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933), whose luminous glass designs wedded technical innovations and superb craftsmanship with the highest artistry, infusing everyday objects with beauty derived from nature. Louis Comfort Tiffany, son of Tiffany and Company co-founder Charles L. Tiffany, formed the Tiffany Glass Company in 1885. Throughout a 40-year career, he forged a unique style that combined superb craftsmanship with a love of natural forms and brilliant color.

Tiffany Studios: The Holtzman Collection has been curated by Alastair Duncan, the world's foremost authority on Tiffany glass and author of numerous books on the decorative arts of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Alastair Duncan is an international consultant specializing in the decorative arts of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and was for fourteen years a specialist and consultant for Christie’s, New York. He is the author of numerous books, among them Art Nouveau, Glass by Galle, American Art Deco, Masterworks of Louis Comfort Tiffany, and Tiffany Lamps and Metalware: An Illustrated Reference to Over 2000 Models. In addition, he has acted as guest curator for exhibitions at the Smithsonian Institution, and has an unparalleled knowledge of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods and Tiffany glass.

During the Degas and Tiffany Exhibitions the Boca Raton Museum of Art will be open Sunday and Monday 12pm – 5pm; Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays 10am – 5pm; Wednesday and Friday 10am – 9pm. Admission for Degas and Tiffany Exhibitions is $20 for adults, $17 for senior citizens (65 and older), $15 per person for group tours and $6 for students.
