ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY.-The Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College presents, "Making It Happen," a series of public presentations this spring that focus on recent international curatorial initiatives. The presentations critically examine the political, economic, and social conditions that make these curatorial positions possible.

The first of of the series, "Not a Point, but a Comma," is offered on Tuesday, January 29. The program, by 'What, How & for Whom,' begins at at 4:30 p.m. in the CCS seminar room and is free and open to the public.

'What, How & for Whom' (WHW) is a non-profit organization for the visual culture and curators' collective formed in 1999 and based in Zagreb, Croatia. Its members are curators Ivet Ćurlin, Ana Dević, Nataša Ilić and Sabina Sabolović, and designer and publicist Dejan Kršić. Since May 2003, WHW has been directing the program of Gallery Nova - a non-profit, city-owned gallery in Zagreb. WHW have just been appointed curators of the 2009 Istanbul biennial.

What, how, and for whom, are the three basic questions of every economic organization that also concern the planning, concept and realization of exhibitions, as well as the production and distribution of artworks or artists' position in the labor market. These questions, which were the title of WHW's first project dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Communist Manifesto, 2000 in Zagreb, became the motto of WHW's work and the title of the collective. Instrumentality of social capital in constituting the social post-socialist reality turned out to be a matrix for the development of WHW's projects and their internal and external operations.
