Masters of Modern American Printmaking at the Muscarelle Museum of Art

WILLIAMSBURG.-The Muscarelle Museum of Art presents the exhibit Impressions and Expressions: Masters of Modern American Printmaking through July 13. With more than 50 prints and artist's books from such renowned contemporary figures as Robert Rauschenberg, Alex Katz and Jasper Johns, this exhibit should offer an insightful introduction into the diverse and dynamic world of 20th-century American printmaking. Expect to see fine examples from modern and contemporary art movements — including Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art and Minimalism — as well as some heroically scaled demonstrations of the modern printmaker's art.

The Museum will celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary in 2008 and in honor of this event, Museum staff intends to survey the entire collection to rehang and reinterpret the major works in a new location in its downstairs galleries from those upstairs, which would give better access to those collections in terms of visitation and flow especially during traveling exhibition show change, and provide a thoughtful arrangement and context for the works that will enhance the teaching nature of the collection for the College and to better display notable works for its visitors.
