City of Sydney Calls on Photographers - Sydney Life Opens for Artists

SYDNEY.- The City of Sydney is calling on photographers to showcase their art in the $10,000 Sydney Life photographic competition and exhibition, as part of this year's Art & About public art festival.

For the seventh consecutive year, Sydney Life will transform Sydney by exhibiting 25 large scale photographic works along the central walkway of Hyde Park North from 4-26 October 2008.

"Sydney Life provides a forum to celebrate the diverse experiences of our city," said Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP. "It is a bright and culturally enriching exhibition that allows artists from across Sydney to share their unique city moments and pastimes.

"Every year, Sydney Life gives the people of Sydney a chance to view humourous, moving and vibrant artworks from the city's most brilliant photographers."

The City of Sydney and AMP Capital Investors will present the Sydney Life Prize, awarded to the artist whose work is judged most outstanding by a distinguished panel of judges. The prize is valued at $10,000, which is comprised of $5,000 cash plus a $5,000 investment in the AMP Capital Sustainable Share Fund.

"Sydney Life profiles works by amateur, emerging and established photographers, providing public recognition and ongoing career benefits to artists at all stages of their careers", said Ms Moore.

The People's Choice Award winning photographer will receive FUJIFILM Australia products worth $3,000.

This year's panel of judges includes Sandy Edwards (Curator, Sydney Life and Curator, Stills Gallery), Malcolm Smith (Program Manager, Australian Centre for Photography), Inara Walden (Curator, Museum of Sydney) and Alastair Walton (Director City Engagement, City of Sydney).

Entries close 5pm Tuesday 8 July 2008. For more information, including the artist brief and entry form please visit www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/community/grantsandawards
