KANSAS CITY, MO.- The Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City recently announced more than $574,000 in grants from the ArtsKC Fund for arts organizations and arts programs in the Kansas City metropolitan area in the Ovation and Catalyst grant categories. The Board of Directors approved distribution of $574,162 in operating and program support to a total of 65 organizations. Funding for the ArtsKC Fund is generated through an annual workplace giving campaign and contributions from individual, corporate and municipal donors. For the 2008 campaign, the Francis Family Foundation provided a $100,000 matching grant for the workplace giving campaign. A total of $731,705 was raised this year.
“The community response to our 2008 campaign was terrific, so we were able to grant 50 percent more money this year than last.” said Paul Tyler, ArtsKC Fund Grants Director. “We also added over 20 new organizations that are receiving funding for the first time, so these programs are reaching diverse audiences in every part of the metropolitan area.”
The ArtsKC Fund is a united arts fund in the metropolitan Kansas City area that raises new money to support a wide range of arts organizations, arts programs, artists and arts professionals. Its purpose is to provide stable sources of financial support for the arts, broaden access to high-quality arts experiences, and promote excellence in the arts and arts administration.
The main focus for raising money during the ArtsKC Fund Campaign is through workplace giving campaigns, an effort that no individual arts organization would have the ability to accomplish on its own. Seventy-two leading Kansas City companies and organizations held campaigns this spring as part of the ArtsKC Fund drive.
