HOUSTON.- The Red Bull Art of Can 2008 national collection was unveiled to more than 1,000 anticipating guests at the Houston Galleria last night, where attendees celebrated the work of emerging artists and seasoned professional alike. Innovative artists submitted their designs for consideration.
Forty-seven pieces were ultimately selected to be a part of this year’s collection. The featured artists are creative types of all ages and occupations – from medical professionals to high school students to classically trained artists.

Red Bull Art of Can gives unknown artists a platform to share their art with a broad audience in a venture that challenges artists to construct pieces created with or inspired by Red Bull cans.

“Red Bull Art of Can has been the most amazing roller coaster ride. My piece --Unbridled -- has taken a life of its own and is now taking me to Switzerland,” said Michael Fiedler, first place winner. “I’m a self-taught artist and the exposure that myself and all the artists have received is immeasurable.”

The Red Bull Art of Can Exhibit is located at 5085 Westheimer Road at the Houston Galleria in front of Neiman Marcus and Tiffany & Co. The collection will be on display, free, and open to the public from July 12-25, 2008. Admirers can contribute their voices by casting votes for the People’s Choice Award throughout the exhibit’s duration by voting via kiosks within the gallery or online at
www.redbullartofcan.com.

Since 1997, Red Bull has hosted Red Bull Art of Can exhibitions around the world, from Switzerland to South Africa, with the first U.S. show debuting in 2005. Host cities are selected for their thriving, vibrant art scenes and dedication to supporting culture and the humanities. Houston joins the company of former U.S. Red Bull Art of Can cities, such as Boston, Atlanta and most recently Chicago.
