Salvatore Ferragamo Celebrates Peggy Guggenheim in Venice

VENICE.- 2008 marks both the sixtieth anniversary of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice and the eightieth year of the Salvatore Ferragamo fashion label. In 1948, Peggy Guggenheim arrived in Venice with an invitation to participate in the post-war Biennale of visual arts, while twenty years earlier, in 1928, Salvatore Ferragamo was founding his brand in Florence. Both went on to become leading players in their respective fields, making history in the twentieth century, and their shared passion for art brings them together once again.

On 26 August, Peggy Guggenheim’s birthday, the Venetian museum opened the home of this American patron of the arts to a collection of shoes from the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum in Florence. Created by Salvatore Ferragamo for film stars like Marilyn Monroe and Anna Magnani, these models are now recreated in a limited edition for the brand’s new vintage line, Ferragamo’s Creations.

To celebrate this event, exclusively for the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice and Ferragamo’s Creations stores around the world, Salvatore Ferragamo is offering the model that its founder created for Peggy in 1942 and the years that followed. The shoe will be available in a variety of colors, materials and heel heights, featuring a ghillie closure and cork wedge heel lined in suede, combining elegance and comfort. The exhibit will be shown in the museum’s entrance hall from 26 August to 6 September, for the entire week of the Film Festival.

In 1999, Salvatore Ferragamo received the Guggenheim Business and Culture Award. It is also a member of Intrapresae Collezione Guggenheim, a group of companies that supports the exhibits and cultural programs organized by the Venetian museum.
