LOS ANGELES.- The J. Paul Getty Trust announced today a change in operating hours and parking fees beginning this fall.
As of Sept. 9, the Getty Center will close at 5:30 pm on all open days except Saturdays, when it will remain open until 9pm. Previously the Getty Center had remained open until 6pmon Sundays and Tuesdays through Thursdays and until 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The Getty Center is closed on Mondays.
The Getty will still present ticketed events and performances on Friday evenings, but the galleries will not be open to the general public. The Restaurant will also close early on Fridays.
The new hours reflect peak attendance for the Getty Center, and represent a savings incost and energy, without severely affecting visitors. The changes are part of the Getty’s strategic planning process begun earlier in the year in an effort to streamline the Getty’s operations.
Getty Villa hours will remain unchanged.
In addition, beginning on Sept. 9, parking fees at both the Getty Center and the GettyVilla will increase from $8 to $10, reflecting increasing costs. Admission to both Museumsremains free. Visitors who arrive on public transit pay no fees at all.
