Fuller Craft Museum to Host Community Day to Ready for the Perfect Fit

BROCKTON.- Fuller Craft Museum invites the public to share personal stories and memorabilia of the shoe industry in Brockton in preparation for the upcoming 2009 exhibit The Perfect Fit - Shoes Tell Stories. On Sunday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., people are invited to bring photos, keepsakes, diaries, news clippings and other memorabilia, to be documented, about Brockton's shoe industry. This event is free and open to the public and will be held at Fuller Craft Museum, 455 Oak St., Brockton, Mass.

"As we get ready for this extraordinary show, we are very interested in hearing personal accounts from people who worked in the shoe industry or knew the people and companies who made shoes in Brockton," said Director and Chief Curator, Gretchen Keyworth. "Shoes are such a big part of Brockton's rich manufacturing history, and we want to hear from the primary sources - our neighbors who were involved in or affected by the industry."

Fuller Craft Museum would like to hear the personal stories of community members who recall the shoe industry in Brockton. In conjunction with The Perfect Fit - Shoes Tell Stories, Fuller Craft is developing an educational exhibit that explores the role the shoe industry played in Brockton. This historical look back at how Brockton was shaped by the people who came here to make shoes and the companies they worked for, will accompany the exhibition.

The Perfect Fit - Shoes Tell Stories, which will be on exhibit at Fuller Craft from June 2009 to January 2010, will examine the ways in which shoes express more than their role as footwear. The exhibition, curated by Wendy Tarlow Kaplan (who has strong family ties to Brockton's legendary shoe industry) presents imaginative objects of every size and craft medium.
