Heresies: a Retrospective by Pedro Meyer on View at George Eastman House

ROCHESTER, NY.- George Eastman House is one of nearly 60 museums on 5 continents participating in the world-wide exhibition Heresies: a retrospective by Pedro Meyer this fall. As part of this exhibition venues will display photographic prints and electronic media in their galleries, while Pedro Meyer makes over four decades of his work available to viewers on the web.

Pedro Meyer is a Mexican photographer who is recognized widely for his powerful images and his pioneering work in digital imaging. His photographs often question the limits of truth, fiction, and reality. He once stated that every photograph contains both truth and fiction whether it has been digitally manipulated or not. As his involvement at that time was mainly in the world of documentary photography, he was called a “Heretic” for his unique viewpoint. This story led to the title Heresies for his upcoming book and exhibition series. Meyer’s work has since evolved from the “direct images” of his documentary work, and he now mixes elements from different photographs “to arrive to a higher or different truth.”

As a photographer, Pedro Meyer has exhibited his work in over 200 exhibitions world-wide and has authored several books and CD ROMs of his work; however his involvement in the photographic arena extends to the roles of teacher, curator, and editor. He is the founder and past president of Consejo Mexicano de Fotografía (Mexican Council of Photography), and he also founded the renowned photography website ZoneZero, which hosts the work of over a thousand photographers. In addition, Meyer is a member of the International Advisory Committee at George Eastman House.
