Per Hüttner Exhibition On View at Abecita Konstmuseum
Per Hüttner.

BORÅS, SWEDEN.- Abecita Konstmuseum presents a solo exhibition by Per Hüttner. The exhibition is the third incarnation of the artist’s ongoing project Democracy and Desire, where the content changes drastically for each venue where it is shown. It started as a photographic exhibition in Madrid in November 2006 and each photograph was accompanied by a drawing when it was shown in Stockholm in 2007.

At Abecita konstmuseum the artist has added new images as well as a timeline with colour fields and words that trace possible pasts and futures of democracy and desire. It runs like a double frieze throughout the whole space. At first glance it appears to be both scientific and linear, but upon closer inspection we become aware that it mixes facts with fiction and the individual and personal with the political and global.

Hüttner uses the exhibition and the freedoms and limitations of each artistic medium to investigate the boundaries of the two incompatible concepts and they remain both a mantra and an unresolvable mystery that enriches and deepens the work as it travels.

Finding new ways of looking at the flow of time is central in the artist’s oeuvre and with the current presentation he has moved into new territory. It allows him to investigate how temporality and social conventions are intimately linked. The exhibition provokes the visitor in the most poetic of ways to reflect upon how his/her individuality clashes with political, social and economic systems and norms. It fuels the tensions that are inherent in self-development and encourages the battles that we have to take on to change our lives and fight for individual forms of freedoms and find new paths in our lives.
