The Columbia Museum of Art Elects Two New Board Members

COLUMBIA, SC.- The Columbia Museum of Art Board of Trustees is pleased to announce Kay Bachmann, a USC law professor, Museum donor and art collector, and Luther Battiste, former Museum board member and an active community member, have been nominated and elected to serve on the Museum’s board. Both members will serve unexpired terms until May 2009 when they can run in their own right for a three-year term.

“The experiences that Kay and Luther bring to the Museum will result in a positive impact for many years to come. We are so grateful for their energy and service in helping us fulfill our mission to inspire, educate and enrich the lives of people living in and visiting South Carolina,” executive director Karen Brosius said.

Bachmann has been a professor at the USC Law School since 1978. She is a collector of American paintings from the mid 19th century to early 20th century and is acquainted with major art dealers who focus on this period.

Luther is a respected lawyer, collector of African-American art, former member of Columbia city council. He is the managing shareholder of Johnson, Toal & Battiste, P.A. and was a previous Museum board member in the 2001-2004 term.
