BERLIN.- The classic melting clocks created by Surrealist genius Salvador Dali will finally have a permanent home in the German capital, in a new museum that allows the visitor to peek into the Catalonian’s universe in centric Potsdamer Platz in Berlín.

The curator of the exhibition, Carsten Kollmeier, said in a press conference that it is a “dream” to have a definitive location and in the center of the city for the exhibition, on which he has been working for 10 years and stated that the museum wants to stay in Berlin for the next 25 years.

But he admitted that depends on the success of the exhibition, which opens on Thursday, since the project has been financed exclusively by the private sector. “The truth is that there never was any relationship between Dali and Berlin.

The desire to capture the masses was, according to Kollmeier, another of Dali´s artistic stimulus which, with some “more commercial and profane” works of art introduced himself into an exclusive artist´s club considered “stars” of their time.

The more than 400 works of art are spread out on two floors and on a surface of 1,400 square meters come from private collections, with whom Kollmeier wishes to cooperate even more in the future as well as with the Teatro-Museo Dalí in Figueres, where the genius was born (1904-1989).

With a white piano suspended over water the Dali-Museum in Berlin welcomes visitors that, celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the death of the artist, exhibits a wide variety of drawings, books and sculptures, apart from the Surrealist films made by Dalí and Luis Buñuel.
