Sotheby's Opens an Office in Jakarta and Appoints Deborah Iskandar as Managing Director



JAKARTA.- Sotheby’s announced that the Company has opened an office in Jakarta and appointed Deborah Iskandar as Managing Director, Indonesia Representative Office to direct the Company’s operations in the country. The opening coincides with a preview of the highlights from the sale of Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Paintings at Sotheby’s Hong Kong on 5 April, 2009.

Sotheby’s first started its business in Jakarta in 1996. The opening of the Jakarta office and the appointment of Managing Director signifies yet another strategic move of the auctioneer in Asia.

Kevin Ching, Chief Executive Officer of Sotheby’s Asia said, “Collectors from Indonesia have been playing a very significant and active role in our sales for many years. Our decision to open a representative office in Jakarta testifies to the importance of Indonesian-based clients to Sotheby’s global business. It also demonstrates Sotheby’s commitment to Indonesia and our determination to bring even better client service to that country.”

Deborah Iskandar, Managing Director, Sotheby’s Indonesia Representative Office, said, “I am delighted to join Sotheby’s and contribute proactively to the Company’s business growth in this important market going forward. Preview of Sotheby’s Hong Kong Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Paintings sale Approximately 30 masterpieces will be exhibited in Sotheby’s Jakarta office from 27th to 28th February (10am to 6pm) to coincide with the opening of the office^.
