NEW YORK, NY.- The diverse artwork of four talented young New York artists is on display in the free exhibit It’s My Turn on display at The New York Public Library’s Hamilton Fish Park Branch through May 1. The exhibition provides a showcase for prints, drawings, sketches, and paintings by these emerging artists. Also on display is a work created by famed Brazilian street artist Alex Hornest aka Onesto, who brings a taste of Sao Paulo to the Hamilton Fish Park Branch. This exhibition has been curated by Lois Stavsky with student-interns Tara Murray and Samantha Sabatino along with the support of Branch Librarian Rodger Taylor.

Works by the following artists will be on display:

Zahanara Akhtar
With abstract forms and swirling shapes, Zahanara Akhtar creates alluring designs that reflect her Bengali heritage. Currently a freshman at Hunter College where she plans to major in studio art, Zahanara has won numerous awards and has exhibited her work at the National Arts Club.

Endi Collado
Endi Collado, a graduate of Hunter College with a B.A. in Studio Art, focuses on innovative printmaking and expressive drawing. With a keen sense of urban flair, Endi Collado creates idiosyncratic abstract works with influences ranging from Salvador Dali to the German Expressionist, Emil Nolde. His artwork was recently exhibited in Art Gotham’s Election 2008.

Nicholai Cerezo Khan
Born in Trinidad, Nicholai Cerezo Khan has been drawing since he was two years old. The work that he has chosen to exhibit, The Human Element: Altier, a fanciful story told with beguiling images, was created “with an island boy’s heart and a New York state of mind.” Nicholai has exhibited in numerous venues including the National Arts Club. His sketch books were on exhibit at Henry Street Settlement’s Abrons Arts Center in 2007.

John Lopez
A graduate of Fashion Institute of Technology, John Lopez is a master of realistic paintings that portray city life. Visually impactful, they reflect Lopez’s command of form and color. John currently shares his passion for art with New York City students, the inspiration behind his inner-city comic strip launched at this exhibit.
