WASHINGTON, DC.- The Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum will host about 20 Washington, D.C., teens working together to present the “Green Ways to Move the Mail Family Day” Saturday, April 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. Participants will tackle the environmental challenges involved in delivering the mail. Families can tinker in a “green” vehicle “invention lab,” discover the “shocking” history of electric cars in the Postal Service and sit behind the wheel of a mail truck and following mail’s journey through children’s books about the mail.

Along the way, the teens leading the festival will improve their public-speaking skills, try out museum careers and share their “green” expertise with the community.

“Today’s youth will make decisions that transform mail transportation in the future,” said program coordinator Erin Blasco. “‘Green Ways to Move the Mail’ will help them develop the perspective and skills needed to confront current and future challenges.”

The Postal Museum encourages families to walk, bike or take public transportation to the “Green Ways to Move the Mail Family Day,” which is supported by Ford Motor Company Fund.
