Christie's Interiors Sale to Feature Asian Ceramics and Works of Art from the Prominent Arthur M. Sackler Collections

NEW YORK, NY.- Following the outstanding results achieved for Fine Chinese Art from the Arthur M. Sackler Collections on March 18, Christie’s will feature additional pieces from this collection in its Interiors sale on April 1 and 2. With a remarkable 99% sell-through rate by lot and by value, the recent sale totaled $10.9 million and further reinforced that rare and exceptional works with excellent provenance continue to generate huge interest and demand from collectors throughout the world.

Dr. Arthur M. Sackler was one of America’s foremost art collectors. The range of his interests was extraordinary and included Chinese, Indian, Middle Eastern, and Pre-Columbian art as well as European ceramics, sculpture, paintings and drawings from the medieval to the modern periods.

Among the highlights included in the upcoming Interiors sale are two Chinese archaic bronze ritual wine vessels from the late Shang Dynasty (estimate: $2,000-3,000); a Chinese unbound album of ten landscape paintings in the style of Tang and Song masters with a colophon on two leaves (pictured page one middle - estimate: $3,000-5,000); a Korean green lacquered, mother-of-pearl, shagreen and tortoiseshell cabinet (estimate: $3,000-4,000); a Chinese huanghuali waisted corner-leg low table (estimate: $8,000-12,000); and a Chinese painting of roses and butterfly (estimate: $5,000-7,000).

In total, the Interiors sale includes over 850 items from various owner collections, including many one-of-a-kind items in virtually every style from antique to contemporary. With lower price points and an ever-changing repertoire of fine and decorative art, these sales – offered nearly once a month in the spring and fall – present excellent collecting opportunities for both designers and private individuals. Property offered in these sales is thoroughly researched by our experienced global team of specialists to ensure the utmost attention to quality and authenticity for which Christie’s auctions are known.
