Kids Explore Powerful Figures Through Time During April School Vacation Week at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

BOSTON, MA.- 2009)—Families are invited to roam the galleries at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), during the Cogan Family Foundation Vacation Week Adventures (April 21–24) and discover the powerful figures depicted in artwork from around the world. Beginning Tuesday, April 21, and running through Friday, April 24, activities at the MFA include creating a golden Buddha, sketching portraits of European royalty, designing a powerful figure in fabric and leather inspired by African art, and searching for dragons in the Asian galleries. Students from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts will also be on hand to help kids create their own masterpieces using the ancient Greek techniques of red-figure and black-figure painting. In addition, families can participate in a special interactive Indian dance performance and art-making demonstration by local group Khel Mel, listen to stories about America’s great leaders, take a fun-filled Family Gallery Tour with Museum educators, and join the MFA’s Teen Arts Council for a talk about powerful figures of the past and present.

SPECIAL EVENT: On Thursday, April 23, families are invited to attend a special ceremony marking the reopening of the Museum’s grand Huntington Avenue Entrance. During the ceremony, children can create their own paper flowers to celebrate spring and help plant a tree with MFA Director Malcolm Rogers.
