Rome Art Coterie 7th National Juried Art Exhibition |

IRVINGTON, NJ.- Armor 7 “Faith” will be on display at Rome Area Council for the Arts Gallery, Rome, Georgia on Friday, April 3,, 2009. An opening reception is scheduled for 6pm.
The exhibit features artists from the local area and from across the country for a total of 47 artists. Forty-seven works including photography, watercolor, oil, pastel, sculpture and mixed media will be on display. Awards will be presented and include first place of $1000, second place of $300, third place of $200, and five honorable mentions at $100 each. The exhibit will run March 31 through May 1, 2009, at the RACA gallery, 248 Broad Street in Rome. Admission to the exhibit and the reception is open to the public and is free of charge.
Ron participated in the 11th Annual Faces Juried International Art Exhibition and according to Larry Bradshaw, Curator; Professor of Art says the following on Ron EA Powell’s artwork that received special recognition chosen from 250 artists worldwide: “Ron EA Powell (REAP13) digs deep into the character of his subjects in a most-striking way. His genius shows through in his work “Armor 10 ‘Endure’” creating a powerful and emotional quality. Richly colored with bright yellow with a little bit of blue accent surrounding a beautifully rendered black and white face. He again accomplishes a compelling work called “Armor 9 ‘Heart’”.
REAP participated in the ArtforProgress.org event Clash of Artist 2009. His paintings were displayed at a sold out event for over 200 people to cast their votes on March 14th 2009 for the winner; which he won first place. Powell grew up in Irvington, attending private parochial schools. Of Jamaican heritage, Powell has visited this source of culture and family ties on several occasions, lending a Caribbean influence to his work. He majored in Fine Arts at New Jersey City University. Powell has also studied figure drawing at The Art Student League of New York, New York City, NY and now currently works at Tiffany & Co., as a Graphic Designer.
The Rome Art Coterie is an organization of artists and non-artists living in Rome, Georgia and surrounding communities. The purpose of the group is to cultivate an appreciation for art and to advance community interest in the visual arts. The organization serves to promote the visual arts through workshops, critiques, lectures, exhibits and community activities. Membership in Rome Art Coterie is open to all interested persons 18 years of age and over. Meetings are held at RACA on the second Tuesday each month at 7:00 p.m. For more information visit romeartcoterie.org.
