The Collectors of the Friends of the Georgia Museum of Art Present a Celebration of Automotive Design, Art on Wheels

ATHENS, GA.- On Saturday, May 16, 2009, the Collectors of
the Friends of the Georgia Museum of Art will host Art on Wheels, a celebration of automotive design, at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, in Athens, Ga.

The gala will feature several cars from the golden age of vintage automobiles.
These cars, which are being provided for the evening by a private collector, will
include a 1962 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud limousine, one of only six ever made. A
1964 Lincoln Continental convertible, a 1954 Mercury Monterey Woodie Wagon,
a 1967 Jaguar and a 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II will also be among the rare
automobiles.

Dinner, dancing and a silent auction will also make this event one to remember.
The silent auction will include a watercolor by Pierre Daura, donated by the artist’s
daughter, a work by Steve Penley and many other unique items donated by the
Friends of the Museum.

Art on Wheels is part of “GMOA on the Move,” a two-year series of off-site
exhibitions and events. The museum’s Carlton Street location is temporarily closed
for the addition of a new wing and renovation of the existing space, but with
GMOA on the Move, the museum will remain active in the community.

John Morrison and Cindy Karp, two members of the Collectors, will chair the
event. The Collectors is a higher-level Friends membership that includes exclusive
invitations to events focusing on collecting art, educational articles related to
collecting and special travel opportunities related to art. The Collectors help the
museum raise money to continue adding to its extensive collection.

“This is the second annual fundraiser that the Collectors are hosting, and in
keeping with GMOA on the Move, we thought the art of vintage automobiles
would be an appropriate theme,” said John Morrison, event co-chair. “The
auction will feature many exciting items, including works by artists such as Steve
Penley and Pierre Daura.”
