Call to Artists - RSA Artist Opportunities



EDINBURGH.- Developmental support of artists towards the creation of new work is a primary aim of the Royal Scottish Academy (RSA). The RSA strives to achieve this through its series of Awards, Bursaries and Scholarships as well as its annual New Contemporaries Exhibition, Annual Exhibition and rolling exhibition programme that showcase new and innovative experimental art.

The Royal Scottish Academy is currently accepting applications for the RSA Morton Award, RSA Friend’s Bursary, and RSA Barns-Graham Travel Award.

RSA MORTON AWARD for Lens based work Monetary award of £4,300 for artist working in lens-based media to develop and produce a new work. The completed new work will be exhibited at the RSA Annual Exhibition in 2010. Open to artist who were born in Scotland, have studied at a Scottish art school or are working / permanently based in Scotland. Not open to artist currently in full time education. Deadline 28 May 2009.

RSA FRIEND’S BURSARY Bursary of up to £3,000 enabling artists to continue and extend their creative development and will be awarded to the artist who submits the most meritorious and worth-while project for artistic development. The bursary will be paid to finance or assist in the cost of a specific developmental project such as travel/research, attending a course/workshop, or to supplement or replace existing income in order to permit a period of exploration and experimentation. Promotional or sales ventures, such as the cost of creating and presenting an exhibition, will not qualify. Deadline 30 June 2009.

RSA BARNS-GRAHAM TRAVEL AWARD This award of £2,000 should be used to fund travel, and should not be used as a capital grant. Open to 2009 graduates of the Fine Art Departments of the Scottish Art Schools at Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen, and Moray. The Award is also open to students who are currently studying at post-graduate level. Deadline 2 July 20009.
