LONDON.- This year’s Summer Exhibition will feature Triton III, a sculptural installation by Bryan Kneale RA in the Royal Academy’s Annenberg Courtyard.

An amalgam of three components, this arresting stainless steel sculpture, made in 2008, has previously been on display at the Cass Sculpture Foundation, Goodwood. Triton III comprises concave and convex forms; some surfaces have a satin finish and others are polished convex and will reflect and distort its courtyard setting at the Summer Exhibition 2009.

Born in Douglas, Isle of Man in 1930, Bryan Kneale studied painting at Douglas School of Art and then at the RA Schools from 1948 – 52. In 1960 he moved to sculpture and spent most of his teaching career at the Royal College of Art, he became professor of sculpture at the Royal Academy Schools from 1980-87. His works have been exhibited in solo shows at the Whitechapel Art Gallery, the Serpentine Gallery and across the world. He was elected Royal Academician in 1974.

Bryan Kneale’s Triton III is the latest installation in the RA’s programme of Sculpture in the Courtyard and follows on from Sir Anthony Caro’s Promenade, the Chapman’s The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth, but not the Mineral Rights, Anselm Kiefer’s Jericho, Rodin's Gates of Hell and Damien Hirst's Virgin Mother.

The Summer Exhibition 2009 will run at the Royal Academy of Arts from 8 June – 16 August 2009.
